This Saturday the Lord did something really special with the women of BVBC through our women’s day retreat. For the last eight months Nicole and I have been praying and asking the Lord to work through the women of our church, to bind their hearts together, to bring unity and community and to build up the body of Christ through them. This is the foundational motive for every event that we plan and the criteria for how we chose to invest our time and resources. We have been praying that the women would have a heart for each other, to invest in one another for God’s glory and exaltation.
This weekend was a time where I felt so encouraged by the gift of the women of our church in my own life, the gift of their wisdom and perspective and humility to share how God has faithfully lead them over the years. My heart for this weekend was that we would make space for all the things we never get, like TIME to talk about and share both what the Lord is doing in our lives and has done, to confess vulnerabilities and fears, and allow the Truth of God’s Word to bring light to those dark places. My prayer was that God would lead the study time, speaking His Truth in a powerful way but that humility would be paramount. That doors would be opened for our relationships to go deeper, for vulnerability to be spoken and met with grace and all in the context of the beauty and haven of the beautiful Rae Mac Beach House.
Even as the day unfolded again and again God’s faithfulness encouraged my heart that He accomplished His purposes for His glory and the building up of His body and Saturday felt like a flagstone in that process of building in to one another even as He works in each of our hearts. How I long for more times like this and how grateful I am for those women who prioritized coming and spending time together as a body.
We studied Psalms 37:3, “Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.” God fed my soul in a powerful way through His Word and discussing it with the women of different seasons. The more mature women testified to God’s faithfulness and goodness and encouraged the younger women to CLING to the Lord as their hope and salvation because He alone doesn’t change in the midst of the challenges and uncertainties of life. As I read these words on a page, I know them, I have spoken them. But I have to tell you there is POWER in hearing them spoken from the lips of a woman who has WALKED with the Lord in faithfulness from a heart of humility through the years. A woman that is willing to admit that life isn’t under her control, hard things happen and EVEN SO God is good and faithful and WITH US. I am so strengthened by the courage of these women, to stand on God’s grace, to be willing to engage those of us who are not yet in their life stage, and to remind us of the Lord’s faithfulness and goodness. This is beauty and courage. And this is an example to me to walk with courage in my own life and with boldness to cling to the Lord through all circumstances.
If you would like a copy of the retreat handout you can find them at the welcome center desk. This is a resource that I wrote for the purpose of encouragement and facilitating the processing of Psalms 37 and God’s faithfulness and trustworthiness.
Nicole and I have so many desires for this women’s ministry, but this ministry belongs to the women of the church and the choice to invest and be present is the greatest gift you can give of yourself, not only for your personal growth and encouragement but for the edification and building up of the Body of Christ.
Upcoming opportunities to connect and invest in the women of BVBC: Wednesday, April 10, we will meet to wrap up our study of 1,2 and 3 John from 6:00-7:00pm and our last women’s book club will meet next month so get a jump on reading that last section of Word Filled Women’s Ministry.
**Thank you to Patty Slater who took so many wonderful and beautiful pictures of the day, some shared here and some will be shared in future posts.
